Jesus, the Intercessor

“Therefore, he is able to save completely

those who come to God through him,

because he always lives to

intercede for them.”

Hebrews 7:25 (NIV)

If the question posed is this, do you want Jesus to be interceding on your behalf with God the Father? Then surely the answer is yes.

Let us look at how this works by using a workplace environment as an example. In this environment there is a multi-tiered system of management. A junior employee has set themselves a personal goal to reach upper middle management in five years. There are various options that are available; the one being to ‘suck up’ to the immediate superior and apply all energy into this endeavour, the other is to apply oneself to doing that which is required of them, over and beyond what is expected.

If the supervisor has a high level of integrity, then the first option will be treated with disdain and the second option with praise. Now the writer of Hebrews continues in verse 26: “Such a high priest meets our need – one who is holy, blameless, pure, set apart from sinners, exalted above the heavens.” This is Jesus we are talking about.

I hold the opinion that Jesus will only intercede for those He considers to be His own. Do we disappoint Him? Absolutely, without a shadow of a doubt. Some do not feel the closeness of God and have said that they feel that God has left them. I believe it is the opposite; it is they who have left God.

It takes work and effort to keep a relationship strong, and the tighter the relationship, the more each party is willing to assist the other. Scripture urges us to get to learn, understand and apply God’s will and desires in our own lives. We will never reach perfection here on earth, but we should strive to reach the end goal as quickly as possible. Remember that the devil knows your weak spots and will continue to push into those areas, causing you to stumble. This will only stop when you are an overcomer in that area.

Let us set our minds on the things of Christ and work to make His character traits our character traits, knowing that as we please Jesus more, so Jesus will be cheering us on and interceding for us even more.

Grace be with you all.
